Clause title: | "SRP Stream Table" and "Outputs" |
Rationale for revision
When a network is time sensitive it would be helpful to be able to monitor if the TSN standards are working and if the network devices are overloaded. Taking as an example the credit based traffic shaping. If the application driving the stream has an unexpected burst of traffic especially on every startup then the credit based shaping will delay all stream traffic until there is less stream traffic than reserved for the stream and then delay will decrease until burst traffic has been compensated. If the stream traffic is constantly at max rate then a burst of traffic will cause the credit based shaper to delay every packet of the stream and this is something that the user should be able to monitor and fix. As simple interactive fix would be to pause traffic generation.
Knowing if the traffic on a bridge causes the buffering to be close to overflowing then modifications can be made before there is congestion. The standards are for time sensitive networks but there is currently no internal way of monitoring the time sensitivity of the network.
Proposed text
First maintenance item
Add to section 12.22.4 SRP Stream Table these objects
Max stream buffer size. This is the maximum number of bytes buffered for a given Steam at any time since power on.
Average stream buffer size This is average number of bytes in the buffer queue for a given stream.
Second maintenance item
Add to section 12.6.1.1.3 Outputs these objects
Max port buffer size. This is the maximum number of bytes buffered for the port at any time since power on.
Average port buffer size This is average number of bytes in the buffer queue for the port.
Impact on existing networks
Performance monitoring of networks will be more accurate than it is currently making it possible to more accurately diagnose and therefor fix the problems on a live network.
