Requested revision
Standard: | 802.1CB-2017 | Clause: | 7.4.1.3 |
Clause title: | SequenceGenerationReset |
Rationale for revision
There is high probability of packet drop (above 99 %) in most cases until timeout triggers the accept of the next packet. Note that packet drop means packet loss for the application whose operation may be damaged by the lost packets. There is a need for seamless reset (especially in Cloud scenarios) i.e., no packet drop, where packets sent after the reset are immediately considered valid by FRER functions of nodes along the forwarding path.
Proposed text
Text changes need further discussions. Proposal is to add a note at the end of the section:
"Note, that SequenceGenerationReset causes packet drop in almost all cases."
Contribution (http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/docs2020/new-varga-FRER-seamless-reset-0320-v01.pdf) proposes a possible solution.
Impact on existing networks
There is high probability of packet drop after reset of Sequence Generation function. New solution needed to ensure seamless reset and no packet loss after reset.
