Requested revision
Standard: | IEEE Std 802.1AS-2020 | Clause: | 12.5.1.2 |
Clause title: | State diagrams |
Rationale for revision
It is stated in 12.5.1.2 that the quantity initReqParamsDot11MasterB.burstDuration–2 is the logarithm to base 2 of the burst duration, in microseconds. This is not correct; actually, this quantity is the logarithm to base 2 of the burst duration, in microseconds, divided by 250. (The division by 250 is part of the definition of the burstDuration parameter; this division is done in the computation of endOfBurstDurationTime in the SET_AS_CAPABLE state of Figure 12-6.) In addition, the sentence before this states: “In the computation of the burstDuration in master state machine B, the burst duration parameter from IEEE Std 802.11-2016 is converted to UScaledNs (i.e., units of 2^(–16) ns; see 6.3.3.2 of IEEE Std 802.11-2016).” In the parenthetic expression, the reference to 6.3.3.2 should be to the current standard (which changed to 6.3.4.2), as this reference relates to UScaledNs having units of 2^(-16) ns; the reference to IEEE Std 802.11-2016 should not be repeated here as it is mentioned previously in this sentence.
Proposed text
Reword the first two sentences after “NOTE-“ by: “In the computation of the burstDuration in master state machine B, the burst duration parameter from IEEE Std 802.11-2016 is converted to UScaledNs (i.e., units of 2–16 ns; see 6.3.4.2). The quantity initReqParamsDot11MasterB.burstDuration–2 is the logarithm to base 2 of the burst duration, in microseconds, divided by 250.” Note that in this replacement text, the “-16” is at superscript level and 6.3.4.2 should be a hot link to the current document.
