Requested revision
Standard: | IEEE 802.1AS-2020 | Clause: | Figure 10-21, Figure 10-22 |
Clause title: | GptpCapableTransmit / GptpCapableReceive state diagram |
Rationale for revision
There are 2 occurences of a variable domainEnabled. This variable
is nowhere defined in AS-2020 and it only occurs in the initial
transitions in the GptpCapableTransmit and GptpCapableReceive
state machines, Figure 10-21 on page 136 and Figure 10-22 on page 138.
Proposed text
Remove the variable domainEnabled
Impact on existing networks
None expected.
Additional remark for consideration in a future revision of the standard:
For a full-duplex point-to-point Ethernet link:
Considering a linkPort with its corresponding gPtpPort, and the scenario: instanceEnabled=TRUE, cmldsLinkPortEnabled=FALSE, ptpPortEnabled = TRUE.
Under these conditions, on the physical port of the device, no PDelay_Req messages from the device will be observed but - as far as I understand - gPTPCapable signaling messages will be seen. This generates unnecessary traffic. asCapableAcrossDomains could be used as a precondition for sending gPTPCapable messages on a full-duplex point-to-point Ethernet link.
