Requested revision
Standard: | IEEE Std 802.1Q-rev | Clause: | 35.2.2.10.2 and 46.2.3.1 |
Clause title: | StreamID (for both) |
Rationale for revision
Triggered by Comment #46 on P802.1Qdj D0.3
Sections 35.2.2.10.2 and 46.2.3.1 both use heading “StreamID”, this alone is not optimal. The very first sentence in both sections starts with “The StreamID group ...”, which seems unrelated to the heading.
Figure 35-4 in 35.2.2.10.2 is entitled “Value of StreamID TLV”, which seems unrelated to the heading.
Table 46-1 in 46.2.3.1 is entitled “StreamID elements”, while the introductory text says “The elements of the StreamID group are listed in Table 46-1.”, both of which seems unrelated to the heading.
In conclusion the terms “StreamID, “StreamID group”, and “StreamID TLV” are not used in a consistent manner.
Proposed text
If the three terms are really needed (and I am not convinced) please make sure, they are used consistently and are properly defined.
At least 35.2.2.10.2 should be called “StreamID TLV” and 46.2.3.1 should be called “StreamID group”.
The reference at the beginning of 35.2.2.10.2 should go further down to avoid confusion.
Table 46-1 in 46.2.3.1 should be entitled “StreamID group elements”
My suspicion is, there are further instances, we need to look at.
Impact on existing networks
Make the description less misleading to the reader.
