Requested revision
Standard: | 802.1AS | Clause: | 10.7.3 |
Clause title: | Timeouts |
Rationale for revision
10.7.3.1 (syncReceiptTimeout) and 10.7.3.2 (announceReceiptTimeout) both need
to have the range specified (the range should be 2 through 255). In10.7.3.3 (gPtpCapableReceiptTimeout),
the specified range of 1 through 255 should be 2 through 255, i.e., the value 1 should be excluded (as is done for Announce Recipt Timeout in 7.7.3.1 of IEEE Std 1588-2019)
because typically a loss of one message is allowed so that a timeout is not triggered prematurely (e.g., if a message is slightly late).
Comments have been submitted on this for the 802.1ASdm/D1.0 WG ballot. It was decided in the TSN call of 3/27/2023 that a maintenance item on this should be submitted.
Proposed text
In 10.7.3.1 and 10.7.3.2, add the sentence "The range shall be 2 through 255." after the sentence "The default value shall be 3." ineach subclause. In 10.7.3.3, change "… 1 through 255." to "… 2 through 255."
Impact on existing networks
It is expected there will be no impact on existing networkds.
