Requested revision
Standard: | IEEE 802.1Q-2022 | Clause: | 8.6.5.3.1 |
Clause title: | Maximum SDU Size Filtering |
Rationale for revision
The specification of the maximum SDU size filter does not mentioned what type of SDU is meant. This seems to cause confusion, e.g. outside organizations currently redefine the SDU size to include media specific overhead like preamble, SFD and IPG. A more precise specification is needed to guarantee interoperability between implementations and cross industries. (See also comment 161 as well as other comments on IEEE P802.1DG 2.0.)
Proposed text
Change the text to: " If the SDU size of a frame exceeds the value of the associated stream filter's Maximum SDU size parameter, the frame is discarded and that stream filter's NotPassingSDUCount is incremented. The Media Access Control Service Data Unit (MSDU) size is used for Maximum SDU size filtering."
MSDU is intentionally spelled out in the text above to avoid confusions with Maximum SDU.
Impact on existing networks
In case there are implementations not using the MSDU, network equipment would need to be updated.
