Standard: | 802.1AB-2009 | Clause: | 8.5.8.1 |
Clause title: | System Capabilities |
Rationale for revision
Currently, Table 8.4 (and the corresponding MIB object) has an entry for WLAN Access Points. By its definition, this entry excludes access points employing (MAC/PHY) radio technologies other than 802.11. This request is to augment LLDP so that small-cell access points, employing technology standardized by 3GPP et al and promoted by the Small Cell Forum, can advertise their presence and capabilities to other network entities. This is critical for small-cell access points because compared to 802.11 technology, they offer different services to end-users and can require different services from the network entities to which they attach.
Proposed text
Insert the following new row at the end of Table 8-4: Bit Capability Reference 12 Small-Cell Access Point Employs GSM, CDMA2000, UMTS or LTE radio standards. 13-16 reserved Insert the following new text in the LldpV2SystemCapabilitiesMap MIB object definition (clause 11.5.1, page 75): DESCRIPTION The bit 'smallCellAccessPoint(11)' indicates that the system has small-cell access point capability . SYNTAX smallCellAccessPoint(11)
Impact on existing networks
None. The technical change requested makes use of a bit that is currently
reserved. Implementations are generally required to ignore reserved bits
upon reception.
