Requested revision
Standard: | IEEE Std 802.1Q-2019 | Clause: | 12.26 |
Clause title: | Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB) management |
Rationale for revision
IEEE 802.1CS makes use of the Edge Control Protocol (ECP). This use is independent of the use of ECP to carry the Port Extender Control and StatusProtocol (PE CSP), which is only use of ECP in 802.1Q-2018. The only managed objects for ECP are desribed in 12.26, which is tied up with PD CSP. This situation was brought up when resolving Comment #1 on P802.1CS D2.3. The editor (this submitter) promised to create a maintenance item for this issue.
Proposed text
When ECP is next revised, the TG/WG should consider whether some managed objects for ECP, e.g. local MAC address, remote MAC address, timeout reset value, and/or maximum number of retries, should be read/write and/or read-only managed objects that are outside the edge bridging section, in an ECP section.
