Further research into the issue was presented in https://www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/docs2021/as-garner-maintenance-item-278-input-needed-v00.pdf. It was agreed that the issue is too complex to include in the Corrigendum and further discussion will be needed. It was considered that a fix for this issue might need to be coordinated with 802.1BA and backward compatibility with 802.1AS-2011 should be considered. The status is being changed back to Technical Experts review as more discussion is required and a specific vehicle for a fix has not been identified yet. |

Further discussion is required around the issue of making some of the features optional instead of mandatory. The editor of ASdm agreed to log the issue in Annex Z of the next draft. There was concern from silicon developers that making an optional feature mandatory for one profile and not another is hard to support, and while it may add cost and complexity, it might be more desired to have a single silicon implementation that supports multiple industry verticals. Further discussion is required. |
